First impression is certainly not the best impression
I was placed in one of the leading MNCs in India and I was totally excited. I was told that I would have to undergo a two month training (damn the boring part of work). The training hall had a big auditorium kind of a setup and it could easily accommodate 100+ plus people. As usual I chose to sit at the last, a habit I had right from my school days. After settling myself down I had a look around and I noticed a very energetic girl towards the extreme right side of the hall. She had occupied the first row. I thought boy she must be really some egoistic nerdy girl. Please do not ask me why I thought so, but if you are a person who falls into my category then you might understand.
The training started. We all were immersed in it. Some slept, some listened, some acted as they listened. This girl that I previously noticed was indeed listening. She was also actively participating in all the question and answering session. This went on for a couple of days in a row. By this time the entire last row and the last but one row had labeled her in the same category in which I had kept her on my first day.
Days went by and she faced some tough time as half of the training hall had started to hate her. She still kept her cool and did not change. Then one day in the month of march our training was over and we were asked to move to the bench where we had to wait for various project teams to pick us up and suck the shit out of us. It was a honeymoon period. We had to stay in the office for just four hours, there was not any work to do and above all we were paid more than what we were paid in the training period! :) This was the time that we all came to know each other better. I was introduced to this girl by a common friend. At that time I was least bothered to talk to her but as I didn't want to hurt her or appear rude I started to talk with her. She listened to me and also started talking. Days went by and we came to know each other better. I realized that she was a great girl. She was certainly not like what I had thought she would be.
It was then I understood that first impression is certainly not the best. At times it is the worst. You cannot look at a person and know what type of a person he/she is. The first impression that I had about her was wrong. She was indeed a great person. Couple of days later I was picked up by a project team and my beautiful bench days were over. I got immersed in my job and knowledge transfer sessions and I was certainly not able to stay in touch with her, but speaking from the heart, this nerdy girl was of the best type I have seen and I feel ashamed and guilty to judge her character based on her appearance or what they call as the First Impression!
PS: Thanks to Facebook I am still in touch with the nerdy girl! :)
